This story was inspired by the 2012 SMRT Bus Riots in Singapore, where more than 150 People’s Republic of China (PRC) bus drivers held a protest. This was the first strike since 1986 (as strikes are illegal), and it was later discovered that many of them were disgruntled at their poor living conditions and unfair wages, and how their complaints had been ignored.

Many of these PRCs left their families and hometowns to come to Singapore to pursuit the “Singaporean Dream”, only to face the harsher realities of unfair wage schemes and rampant xenophobia here.
